Eric Brewe (Drexel University)

Dr. Eric Brewe is a Professor in Physics and Science Education at Drexel University and is the Associate Dean for Graduate Education. His research into the teaching and learning of physics at the university level includes developing curriculum for the Modeling Instruction course, leading inquiries into the role of Modeling Instruction in promoting student learning, participation, retention & persistence, enhanced attitudes toward science and equity. This research has led to describing the role of participation in learning using primarily quantitative measures including the use of Network Analyses, and recently applications of machine learning and natural language processing. In addition to research on postsecondary physics, Dr. Brewe has been involved in preparing future physics teachers through Modeling Workshops, and as co-editor of the PhysTEC sponsored book, Recruiting and Educating Future Physics Teachers: Case Studies and Effective Practices. Dr. Brewe helped to found the American Physical Society’s Topical Group on Physics Education Research (GPER) and served as the founding Chair of GPER. He recently co-edited the Focused Collection on Gender in Physics published by Physical Review – Physics Education Research, served on the editorial board for Physical Review – PER and currently serves as Chair for the APS Forum on Education. Dr. Brewe was chosen as a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2019. Beginning in July 2023, Dr. Brewe has been an Associate Editor with Physical Review Physics Education Research.

Flower Darby (University of Missouri)

Flower Darby celebrates and promotes effective teaching in all modalities to advance equitable learning outcomes for all students. She’s an Associate Director of the Teaching for Learning Center at the University of Missouri. Prior to that, she held roles such as Assistant Dean of Online and Innovative Pedagogies and Director of Teaching for Student Success. These roles have allowed her to build on her experience teaching in person and online for over 28 years in a range of subjects including English, Technology, Education, Leadership, Dance, and Pilates. In her current work and publications, Darby empowers faculty to teach inclusive and equity-focused classes in all modalities. Her recent books include The Norton Guide to Equity-Minded Teaching (2023) and Small Teaching Online: Applying Learning Science in Online Classes (2019).

Deborah Gill (University of Southampton)

Professor Deborah Gill is Vice-President Education and Student Experience at the University of Southampton. She joined Southampton on 1st April 2022 from University College London (UCL) where she has been their Interim Vice Provost, Education and Student Experience since April 2021. Immediately preceding this, Professor Gill spent two years as UCL’s first Pro-Vice Provost for Student Experience. She also led UCL Medical School for six years. Qualifying in Medicine in 1990, she began her academic career in 1996 as a Fellow at Barts & the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry. She joined the Royal Free Medical School as a Lecturer in the Department of Primary Care & Population Sciences in 1997 and moved to UCL to take up a Senior Lecturer post in the Academic Centre for Medical Education in 2002. Professor Gill was appointed Deputy Director of UCL Medical School in 2010, awarded a Chair of Medical Education in 2015, and became a Director in the same year. As a clinical academic, Professor Gill has combined academic work with clinical practice as a GP for over 20 years, only recently stepping down to focus on her senior academic role
