Dr Silvia Dal Bianco
Associate Professor (Teaching) in Economics, UCL
Silvia is an Associate Professor (Teaching) and E-learning Champion and Connected Learning Lead in the Department of Economics at UCL and leads our work on digital assessment. She possesses a 20-year national and international academic experience. She has been teaching in a wide array of modules, both at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, in UK and Italian universities, such Oxford, Royal Holloway and Bocconi. Silvia holds a degree in Economics from Bocconi University, a M.Sc. in Economics for Development from Oxford University and a Ph.D in Economics from the University of Pavia.
Silvia’s areas of expertise include applied and international economics as well as macroeconomics. She is also involved with delivering our outreach activities including the UCL Economics Summer School 2021 for Year 12 and 13 widening participation students. Her economic expertise is in macroeconomics and money and banking, with particular interest in cryptocurrencies and central bank digital currencies. Her education research interests are in design of multimedia assessments, considering race in the curriculum and closing the BAME awarding gap and working with students as research partners.
Silvia is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), Assessor for HEA Fellowships at UCL and, before joining academia, she has consulted a number of national and international institutions, such as UNESCO, DFID and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Trade.
Dr Ramin Nassehi
Associate Professor (Teaching) in Economics, UCL
Ramin Nassehi is an Associate Professor (Teaching) at the Department of Economics at UCL and leads our work on connecting students with research, but organising our annual undergraduate conference, Explore Econ, and designing innovative ways to help academics communicate about their research to students (UCL Economics Research Digest Podcast and Get to Know your Professor). He has been educated at the University of Oxford, LSE, Queen Mary University and University of Tehran. Before joining the UCL, he taught economics at King’s College London and School of Oriental & African Studies. Ramin has won five teaching awards in the past four years including the best BSc Lecturer (optional modules) in the Department of Economics at UCL (2018), the SOAS Director’s Prize in Inspirational and Innovative Teaching (2017), nomination for Teaching Excellence Award at King’s College London (2017) and the Fractional Teaching Prize in the Department of Economics at SOAS (2015 & 2016).
His economics expertise is in Economic History, brought to life by his UCL Economics Walks, and International Economics including political economy. His education research interests are in place-based teaching, producing engaging multimedia approaches to communicating economics and encouraging interaction in large group teaching. He is a member of the CORE team, producing ‘walk through’ video tutorials to support student understanding of fundamental models in textbooks.
