Parama Chaudhury is Pro-Vice-Provost Education (Student Academic Experience) and Professor (Teaching) in the Department of Economics at UCL. She has taught at the University of Oxford, Yale University and Dartmouth College before coming to UCL. She received her Ph.D. from New York University and is interested in labour economics particularly employer-employee relationships and inequality.

Parama is Academic Director of our training programmes with the FCDO and the Cabinet Office. Her economics expertise is in the areas of International Trade, Gender and Ethnicity in the Economy and Economics of Education. In higher education she is passionate about ensuring equal opportunities for students, leading outreach work particularly in the context of widening participation initiatives and understanding how to eliminate the BAME awarding gap. Her education research spans a wide range of areas, from big picture adaptable curriculum assessment design to value of team-based learning and use of technology to facilitate active learning in large groups. She is a Principal Fellow of the HEA and Assessor for HEA Fellowships at UCL. She is a member of the RES Education and Training Committee and the CORE project teaching and learning committee and leads UCL’s data analysis work on the BAME Awarding Gap.  

Parama is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.


Prof Cloda Jenkins

Cloda Jenkins is Professor of Teaching in Economics in the Department of Economics and Public Policy at Imperial Business School. Her areas of interest are regulation and competition economics, with a particular focus on energy markets. She taught at UCL from Sept 2012 to Dec 2021 and prior to that worked for over fifteen years as an economic consultant and at the UK energy regulator. She continues to provide expert advice and training to regulators.

Cloda’s economics expertise is in the economics of markets, considering how to make markets work more effectively and how best to design and implement government interventions when needed. In higher education she is passionate about ensuring that students develop skills alongside knowledge as part of their degree experience and that education policies and practices are informed by the student voice and student partnership opportunities. Her education research, linked to her interest in employability, is focused on skill development, active learning, assessment design and the value of group work. She was Lead Tutor for our FCDO training and has delivered numerous courses on economics for non-economists, regulation economics and competition economics.

Cloda is a Principal Fellow of the HEA. She is Chair of the EEA Education Committee, member of the RES Education and Training Committee, Associate of the Economics Network  and a contributor to the CORE curriculum.
